Hello Alistair,
As you said that you are using Outlook since many days and also said its not opening. Then PST file of Outlook might have got corrupted. Outlook uses PST file to store information. When PST file reaches 2 GB file size (In Outlook 2003) it gets corrupted. Or there may be some other reasons like virus attack or improper termination of Outlook. In such cases it is advised to repair the PST file of Outlook by using Scanpst.exe (inbox repair tool) its a tool provided by Microsoft for free. Try using this software and repair your PST file.
If it does not work then it is advised to scan PST file using third part tool. Choose a good software which repair Outlook PST.
Download the demo version of the software and repair Outlook PST file.
