I recently changed from Netscape to Outlook Express. Would appreciate it
very much if someone could let me know how to delete an
unwanted/suspsicious email before it opens.

Using the preview pane. View/Layout. Or you can right click on the same
bar as Send/Receive and add an icon to toggle back and forth.
