The OE development team, (and the Vista Windows Mail team), were disbanded
in June, 2006. In the past, the OE team would work with the Office team to
make sure things like the Word spell checker was compatible. There was no
one to do this last time around.

There will be no changes to OE ever. It will be supported as long as XP is,
but only as far as security issues go.

I just noticed this comment about no development support for OE and Vista
Windows Mail. I am still on XP SP3 (and will probably remain so when
acquiring a new machine soon, preferring to jump an iteration of Windows).

You're implying a move to Outlook would be a safe thing to do.

I had another look at Outlook (2000) and found it does not seem to allow the
very convenient custom folders or Groups that one can create in OE, unless I
missed something. And I don't need the personal information management
(PIM) functions as I use another application.

Any comments?

I never implied moving to Outlook at all. XP/SP3 will be supported until
April, 2014 and I plan on having at least one machine with XP and Outlook
Express until then. There will never be any changes made to OE, but security
updates will be issued if needed.

Security updates will be supported in OE as long as XP is supported. So
as long as you are happy with the Features of OE, there is no compelling
reason to change.

As for Outlook 2000, there have been 3 newer versions since then. If
you are interested in Outlook, take a look at

I was not suggesting that Bruce had said that one should move to Outlook,
but if the team has been disbanded, what about bug fixes, stability issues
and the like?

I have other apps from around 2000, incl MS Word, Excel etc whoch work fine
without support, but they had a dose of inputs at the time -- e.g. SR-1 --
did they not?

OE's features as they are seem to suit me fine.
