Outlook Express opens connections to my news server on it's own!

I use Outlook Express for accessing newsgroups (like this one).

I find Outlook Express opens connections to the news server all on it's own
so that when I actually try to read or send a message I get errors that I
already have the maximum allowed number of connections to the server so I
can't read or send.

This is extremely tedious and can make using newsgroups a very frustrating
process.

Is there any way I can stop (or limit) this weird Outlook Express behaviour?

I'm using Windows XP Home with SP3.

OE can use up to 3 concurrent connections to a news server. Most news
servers allow this. But I've seen reports of some that allow only 2
connections.

You are most likely to run into the limit if you have just posted a
message and then switch newsgroups.

Some things you can do minimize the problem.

- If you have selected Tools, Options, General, Check for new messages
every xx minutes, make sure that in Tools, Accounts, News, Properties,
General you have NOT selected to Include this account when checking for
new messages.

- Tools, Options, Send do NOT check Send Immediately.

Post the complete (verbatim) error message, please.

Do you see the same behavior if you access this and other newsgroups via the
free MS newsserver?
