Hi,

I'm trying to export messages from OE6 and am getting the following error
message:

"The Export could not be performed. An error occurred while initializing
MAPI. "

I searched for a solution online and found a document instructing me to
change the default email program from OE to something else. I followed the
directions to the letter, but no luck. The same exact error appears when I
try to export. The person I'm trying to do this for has several different
identities in OE and the problem happens in each one. Any ideas?

If you are trying to export to Windows Messaging or Outlook97/98/2000+
on the same PC, then that program must be the default MAPI program (Not
OE). The messages go to the default profile in that program. On the
other hand, if all you want to do is back up the files or transfer to
another PC using OE, Export is not the way to go.

Thanks for your response.

My reason for doing this is to transfer the messages to OE 6 on another PC,
but not necesarrily to the same folder(s). If export is not the way to go,
then what do you advise? I'm hoping to avoid having to hard-wiring the 2 PCs
if possible. Thanks.

See these links. IMHO, it would be easier to get the entire message store to
the other PC, and then remove what you don't want. Folders.dbx must be
included in a backup, or a tedious manual import will result.
