Lost Wife's email folders, save my life!

My computer crashed today, but I had my email files on a thumb drive. I put
it in my wife's computer and changed the location of the email files to my
thumbdrive. Worked fine.
But I can't change it back!

Her email files are at c:\documents and setting\owner\local
settings\application data\identities\{9F3F1FBF-9CCB-44C4-8345-B1DF87F0}
But I can't get at them. When I try to change Outlook Express to that it
doesn't see it.
What do I do?

There are recent deleted copies of all the folders in the recycling bin, but
when I restore them they go to the folder above and I can't see them on My
Computer. Any way to restore to a different file, where maybe I can access
them?

You gotta help me, when she finds out I am dead.

You're dead...unless she backs up her message store on a regular basis.

Rule #1: Lie, lie, lie. Always lie. It was a power outage.

Rule #2: You're dead anyway!!!

(Now I know why I've been happily divorced for 31 years).

I am not completely sure what you did or where you stand, but if you know
the location of her dbx files, create a new identity for her and try to
import them.

File | Identity | Add New Identity. Create a new one and test it. If all is
well, you can import your, or her messages and Address Book from the old
identity and delete it.

If all else fails.

How to restore individual dbx files:

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder will reveal the location of
your Outlook Express files. Press the Tab key to highlight the folder
location, then Ctrl+C. Close OE, then Start | Run | Ctrl+V will put the
location in the box - Click OK and you'll see the OE files. Otherwise, write
the location down and navigate to it in Windows Explorer.

In WinXP, Win2K & Win2K3, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default
marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable
Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options
Icon | View, or in Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options | View.

[I think her original message store is toast now. However, if the Recycle
Bin contains BAK files from her identity's (and her identity's only)
now-deleted store, it's possible that some messages might be restored or
recovered from them. DBXpress with recover some if run in "extract from
disk" mode. I'm not sure I'd have the patience to do it myself. Then
again, I'm not in OP's predicament either. VBEG]

Although OE can't see them, MyComputer can. I moved them to a folder in My
Documents and now OE doesn't have a problem. All's well that ends well, but
it was a very unpleasant hour before I figured it out.
Earlier in the day my computer crashed, which is why I was doing this. Then
while I was doing a non-destructive restore of my operating system we had a
2 hour poweroutage, which trashed it beyond repair. I am doing a
format/restore now. Argh.
