Default Default Mail Client error prompt

The first fix didn't fix the problem. I use Outlook Express as my mail
client. I am able to email from other apps, so I'm not sure editing the
registry will fix my particular problem.

Idid find this at MS, which identifies the error prompt verbatim, but it
refers to Outlook, and not Outlook Express.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/813745/en-us

Would the fix be the same/similiar ?

I do have Outlook installed via Office 2000, but have never used it.

Thanks again,

Do you want to make Outlook Express the default e-mail client, or MS
Outlook?

Make OE the default e-mail client:
http://www.oehelp.com/oedef.aspx

See this if it still does not set as default:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=306098

Make Outlook your default mail program:
http://www.slipstick.com/config/defaultmailer.htm

MS Outlook newsgroup:

Periodically I get the prompt "Either there is no default mail client or
the mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request. Please run
Microsoft Outlook and set it as the default mail client."

In OE, under tools/options/general the make default application buttons
are greyed out.

Any help in resolving this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Default Default Mail Client error prompt

See what you have set in Internet Explorer | Tools | Internet Options |
Programs.

The Outlook KB article would set Outlook as the default e-mail client, and
would also require a registry edit.

When you get the error message, are you trying to send from OE which you say
you use as your e-mail client?

Default Default Mail Client error prompt

Outlook Express for both email & newsgroups. Actually, I'm getting the
prompt after startup, without even opening OE, or IE.

Default Default Mail Client error prompt

If you get this prompt without IE, or OE even opened, I have not seen this
before and am not sure of the cause.

Watch for a reply from someone else, but since this post is 13 days old, you
might want to repost in 24 hours if you don't get a response.

Make sure if you do, that you include that you get this prompt without IE,
or OE being opened. That threw me off.

If you're getting the prompt at startup then you probably have malware.

Try going to Start | Program access and defaults as Robear suggested and set
OE as default as well as what the others suggested.
