POP3 account errors, although internet access/email account are wo
 

Hi posting this on behalf of my father,

he's having trouble with recieving/sending mails from outlook 6.

His dial up intenet account is working as he can access the internet, also
his email account is working as i have entered his account details on my
computer and am able to access his emails.

Error is as follows -

'a time out occurred whilst communicating with server.
account.POPwanadoo.co.uk server smtpwanadoo.co.uk protocol smtp port 25,
secure (sslno,error no.0x800ccc19)'

I'm struggling to understand why he cannot access his email accounts,

anyone have any suggestions

Antivirus program set to check emails... email scanning does nothing extra
to protect you (If the definitions aren't there in the real time scanning
they won't be there in email scanning either) but the process causes enough
delays for outlook express or the server to get real upset.

That's actually an SMTP sending error. If he has any messages in his
Outbox (as he apparently does), OE will try to send them before it will
try to download any incoming mail. So there might not be any problem
with his POP3 access (OE isn't getting to the point of trying that).

As for the sending problem, this could be cause by:
- anti-virus scanning of e-mail. This is unnecessary as long as the
anti-virus does the standard checking as files are opened.
- using the wrong SMTP mail server. He needs to use the one that he is
currently connected to the Internet via.

Hopefully it's just a typo, but there should be a full stop between smtp
and wanadoo, in the server name -
smtp.wanadoo.co.uk

Hard to see too in those boxes aren't they.
