I just downloaded the latest Windows XP Updates and have SP2 on this system.
However, when I rebooted, I can no longer send or receive msgs in OE6. I can open the program OK & can also surf the Internet with IE. I don't receive any error messages but sometimes have trouble shutting OE down. I also tried turning off my anti-virus program, but this didn't help. Could there be a problem with a Windows Update that is causing this to happen? |

Does it even seem to try to do a send and receive? Look in Tools,
Accounts, Mail, Properties, General. Is the Include this account ... box checked? Yes, but it only says "Connecting" in the tool bar and this never seems to
change. No eventual error message that says it couldn't connect or anything - just constant "Connecting." And the "Include this account" box is checked. And I don't get any error messages when I try to send/receive so I doubt the troubleshoot article will help. Any word on a problem with an Update? Are you running Norton Internet Security or Personal Firewall?

yes, but I shut it completely off to make sure that this wasn't what was
interfering with OE and there was no change whatsoever in the OE function. Try the section entitled "To restore the default General and Trojan horse
firewall rules" at this page: http://service1.symantec.com/Support...05083015103436 If no joy, Disable protection, reboot, and re-enable it. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE/OE, Shell/User, Security), Aumha.org VSOP, DTS-L.org donna wrote: yes, but I shut it completely off to make sure that this wasn't what was interfering with OE and there was no change whatsoever in the OE function. I followed the instructions to restore & now I can turn off all Norton
Internet Security EXCEPT the anti-virus and automatic updates. When I open the options menu to turn off these two features, the program locks up on me completely. This wasn't true earlier when I was able to turn off the anti-virus before. I shut down the system anyway even though I couldn't turn off those two
features. I forgot to say that I was having trouble shutting down XP as well & would frequently get an End Programm CCApp message. But when I booted back up, OE was working, so whatever it was (can you identify this for me - something to do with a Norton Firewall update???), it appears to be over. I dunno, but it would appear that you needed to reboot in order to have
whatever corrections you made "stick" or take effect. Thanks for posting back.
