Identities Bug (?) In Outlook Express
I have been using Outlook Express for years - never had a problem with
'Identities' before. However, I just got a new system running Windows XP (the old one still runs Windows Me - yuck), and on the new system the Identities behaviour appears to be different, if not incorrect. I have 3 Identities set up with Outlook Express - let's call them A, B and C. They are each set up with passwords so that either A, B or C must log in before retrieving his or her mail. Never had a problem with this running Outlook Express 6 on Windows Me. However on the new XP system, if I log out of OE (using the exit and log off identity feature as always), and wait long enough (not sure how long, but several hours at least, I get the message "There is no current Identity" when I go back to the computer. This in and of itself is not a big deal, however when a user is then selected from the list of A, B and C the password is not required!!!!!!!!1 That is, under these circumstances A, B or C could log in to OE as any identity without requiring any password information! Again, this only happens if I wait long enough (again, several hours or something) and come back to the computer, move the mouse to wake up the screen/power saver, and see the "There is no current Identity" box. If I log out of OE (exit and log out Identity) and then try to log in as another user within a relatively short amount of time, it does prompt me for A, B or C's password just as you would expect (and just as it always did on my Me system). It's only if I wait long enough that the "There is no current Identity" window appears that the entire password protection scheme can be bypassed. Why does this happen and how can I remedy it? Are you using MSN Messenger? If so, see:

Identities Bug (?) In Outlook Express
I have MSN Messenger installed but am yet to use it. I will check those
links though. However, judging by the info you gave me regarding the links, I feel there may be a misunderstanding: when I come back to the computer (again, only after several hours such that the "There is no current identity" box is on the screen) it DOES prompt me for an identity, it simply does not require a password: simply choose an identity from the list, and you're logged in as whoever you want to be!
