I double-checked to make sure that a gmail address of mine was in fact
included in contact info of Outlook Express' Address book and *still* I'm
repeatedly seeing incoming messages from that account listed as 'Spam
Suspect' in OE's inbox (at least they aren't automatically going into
'bulk', I guess).

The messages in question do not contain any filter-as-junk keywords in their
subjects btw.

What am I not doing, or could do, to alleviate this issue?

OE doesn't do any spam checking. And it never modifies the message
subject or text.

So some other program is doing that. It could be at the mail server or
some anti-spam program that you installed. Neither of those would be
checking your OE address book.

So what has adding an entry in your contacts list have to do with
identifying those senders as non-spam senders? Doesn't matter if it
is for yourself or anyone else that you want to record in your address
book. You would need to define a rule in OE to whitelist everyone in
your address book which is a ridiculously laborious task because you
have to specifically name each sender by copying their e-mail address
into your whitelist rule rather than just specify that everyone in
your address book is to be whitelisted.

You make it sound like you have to add the addresses one address at a time.
If so that is not true.

Outlook has the condition in a rule where you can specify a
contact-type folder (you might have more than one so you need N rules
for each one because Outlook won't let you specify more than one
contact-type folder per rule).

Outlook Express has no such rule where you can add a condition to
whitelist everyone in your Address Book.

This newsgroup's title shows it is to discuss Outlook Express. The OP
mentioned using Outlook Express. There is no rule in OE to let you
whitelist everyone currently listed in your Address Book. You have to
create a "Where From contains" rule and then add manually every e-mail
address that you want to include. If you have 300 names in your
Address Book, you would have to manually add 300 names to the "Where
From contains" rule.

Yes, you can define a whitelisting rule in both Outlook and Outlook
Express. In Outlook, you can grab everyone all at once by including
the contact-type folder in the rule. No such luxury exists in OE so
for N contacts you have to add N senders to the whitelist rule.

The OP appears to think that adding an e-mail (his own, in this case)
into his Address Book will somehow magically whitelist that sender.
Doesn't do that in Outlook or Outlook Express. You need to whitelist
the sender.

For your info... Select the first name in the Address Book then hold down
the Shift key when selecting the last name will highlight all names in the
Address Book. In other words, you can grab all 300 hundred names at once.

Yep, which means you are manually all 300 names as individual
addresses in the whitelist rule (which is based on e-mail addresses
rather than address books). The shortcut you mention helps to reduce
the effort in updating the whitelist rule. However, it also means
that changes in your address book for OE will *not* get reflected in
your whitelist rule where you have to manually edit the list of
recipients.
