I have an email hung up in my outbox. The email had a large file attachment
and it tries to deliver it until it times out but never successfully delivers it. I have tried to delete this message but the delete option does not become available when I click on the message. I would appreciate any information available on how to go about deleting this message. |

Open the Outbox and see if it will delete after checking: File | Work
Offline & View | Layout: Uncheck the Preview Pane. (Use the Delete key if need be). If not: Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Press the Tab key to highlight the folder location, then Ctrl+C. Close OE, then Start | Run | Ctrl+V will put the location in the box - Click OK and you'll see the OE files. Otherwise, write the location down and navigate to it in Windows Explorer. In Windows XP, 2K & 2K3, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Explorer, you must enable Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options | View. With OE closed, find the DBX file for the Outbox.dbx and delete it. A new, empty one will be created automatically when you open OE. Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They will eventually become corrupted. Create your own user defined folders for storing mail and move your mail to them. Empty Deleted Items folder regularly. Keep user created folders under 100MB, and Default folders as empty as is feasible. After you are done, follow up by compacting your folders manually while working *offline* and do it often. Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the Status Bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed. In Tools | Options | Maintenance: Uncheck Compact messages in background and leave it unchecked. {N/A if running XP/SP2}. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA "Donald Millikan" Donald wrote in message ... Read the rest of Bruce's fix. The part after IF NOT. It will have you
close Outlook Express and delete the Outbox.dbx file which will fix your problem. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "charliej" wrote in message ... i also have this problem. i tried to send a small video from image zone (off my camera) and it hung up in there. will not let me do anything in the outbook folder, so therefore i can't try what this post suggested. i can't click on anything on that page. i have been waiting and trying for 3 days now. any help would be appreciated. i can't send or receive anything and can't get it out of theres. i am running outlook express 6 and have windows 2000 on my pc. thanks, charliej "Bruce Hagen" wrote: Open the Outbox and see if it will delete after checking: File | Work Offline & View | Layout: Uncheck the Preview Pane.
