Find not working

OE 6

The find feature misses matches both brand new emails sent out and imported
eamils from OE 5.

Is there a way to re-index or ??

Google desktop was on this computer but I uninstalled it recently.

Details? (Give a specific example you want an explanation for.)

Possible explanations for this complaint would be:
1. The server is IMAP
2. The E-mail was HTML
3. The post was encoded (or encrypted).
4. Etc.

Re-index? Now one wonders what kind of Find you are trying to do...

I doubt that that tool reads .dbx files, e.g. completely ignoring intervening
control information which is inserted every 512 bytes in those files.
If you are searching raw .dbx files that would be another reason why some
finds might not succeed. ; }

Find not working

Hi Karl,

There are three reasons that I know of for problems with the search
feature. You could try replacing the master indexing file, Folders.dbx
(see KB article and information below).

Three Reasons

1. Anti-virus or anti-spam message scan.
2. Search.dbx files not removed from the message store.
3. Corrupted Folders.dbx file in the message store.

Third-party message filtering may work for days, weeks or months, then
suddenly fail and not work again.

Microsoft KB article
OLEXP: "Find Message" Dialog Box Does Not Function By Any Criteria

http://support.microsoft.com/default...58&Product=oex

First close Outlook Express.

Rename the Folders.dbx file:

1. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.

2. In the Named box, type folders.dbx. Include hidden files and
folders for Windows XP.

3. In the Look In box, click your primary hard disk (usually
drive C), and then click Find Now.

4. Right-click the Folders.dbx file, and then click Rename.

5. Type folders.old, (or delete the file) and then click OK.

6. Start Outlook Express. This creates a new Folders.dbx file
automatically.

See Inside OE to understand what will occur when Folders.dbx is
replaced.

Open the Store Folder Alternative

1.. In Outlook Express click on Tools, Options, Maintenance
tab...Store Folder.
2.. Place the cursor at the left of the text of the path to the
folder.
3.. Drag the cursor to the right until the text scrolls to the end.
4.. Right-click on the text and choose Copy.
5.. In the Start, Run box right-click Paste. Click OK to open the
store folder.

An even easier method when opening that page is to use the Tab to
highlight the folder location, then Ctrl+C and close OE, then use
Start/Run
and Ctrl+V. Same caveat about hidden files applies but can be easily
modified in Explorer by using Tools/Folder Options.

Asked/Answered in OE General. If you must make identical posts to multiple
newsgroups, please cross-post one (1) message to all of them. Thank you.
