Default Reply toolbar disappeared

Helping a friend who is new to Outlook Express. He has WinXP and OE6. His
e-mail WAS working fine, but now both in Inbox view and if he double clicks
to open a message, the toolbar with Reply, etc., etc. has disappeared. I
thought perhaps it got pushed up into the File-Edit toolbar, but he says (on
the phone; I haven't seen it myself) that a double arrow with the cursor
won't let him pull it down (if that's even the problem). I'm leaving town
tomorrow and would very much like to be able to help him before I go.
Thanks for any help with this.

Default Reply toolbar disappeared

Hello and please forgive the intrusion but I have the same problem in my OE6:
my toolbar disappeared today in the general OE area only. My "toolbar" and
"viewbar" are checked. I aso went to "Layout" and everything is checked
properly. I shut down both the OE6 and my computer and reopened it...and no
help. Will appreciate the steps that I can do next to remedy this glitch?
Thanks so very much! Adela

P.S. I still cannot post here as it won't open for me since months now,
although it does open the reply. I was suggested here, and tried, to rid of
the popup ad in the yellow line above but didn't work. I was also suggested,
and did, to put this forum in my OE6, but I dont' know how to handle it since
I see lots of foreign language, garbled and other strange messages. I
expected to see the same as here, i.e., separated by categories so I can
choose what I need, etc. Please let me know how to understand this nice
forum in my own OE6 (step by step please)? Again I beg you to forgive my
intrusion here and I antiicpate my thanks for any help you can give on these
2 problems. :-)

P.P.S. Joy's msg seems to be closed now...

or copy that into your IE address line?

The toolbar problem indicates a damaged identity especially if it is the
default Main Identity. File | Identity | Add New Identity. Create a new one
and test it. If all is well, you can import your messages and Address Book
from the old identity and delete it.

Thanks David for prompt reply!

I copied and pasted the link you gave me onto my IE address line (my Word
doesn’t allow me to click on it though it’s blue and underlined). And it
(miraculously?) placed itself in my OE email. It’s only for OE which is good
and it shows a list of msgs just as the ones I had but at least they are all
on OE. May I ask would be the link for other Microsoft forum problems
besides the OE? Also, how do I delete the msgs that are garbled, before or
after opening? There’s no delete option… Finally, when I click on the main
link: “msnews.microsoft.com” it brings in a dialog box which I don’t
understand how to mnage but that I hope I’ll learn in one of the links that
Bruce sent me? )

Thank you so much again! Adela

Thank you very much Bruce, I’ll follow your advice for my damaged identity by
creating a new one, but I’ll have to ask my servers for permission to use
(temporarily) a 5th identity as they allow me only 4 and are pretty mean
about it… )

Popup problem: I was told by MS forum to get rid of this feature I have with
Googlebar that catches suspicious popup ads (which appears as a yellow band
below the IE address window) because it may be what’s blocking my ability to
post, so I immediately closed that feature but didn’t help.

I’ll read al the links you sent me and will start trying out things to cure
my problems, hopefully…

Thanks again, Adela

P.S. How can I expand the width of the box at the right hand side on this
website, since some lines go beyond the right margin and in order for me to
read it all I have to copy it and post it in my Word to read... Thanx!

P.P.S. Now that I have your forum in my OE, will I be getting your answers
there?

You will have to go to the Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs to get rid of
the Google bar.

Your ISP may only allow four accounts, but not identities. They wouldn't
even know how many you have. You are not changing your e-mail address.

Also, your posts a garbled. Are you writing them in Word and then pasting
them in here? Write them in the composition window. In Tools | Options |
Send | News Sending Format | Plain Text Settings, set it to MIME / None.

1. When OE asks if you want to subscribe answer yes.
2. To delete a message in your OE highlight it in the messages list and
press the Delete key on the keyboard.
3. click Tools | Newsgroups and it should offer to download a list of
newsgroups (about 2200). After the list is downloaded you can type "word"
(no quotes) in the top field and it will give a list of Word newsgroups. A
newsgroup with two letters between dots is in a foreign language, .it. for
Italian, and so forth.
4. I'm sure you'll find OE a better and faster way to read newsgroups.

Default Reply toolbar disappeared

I don't know if I want to remove Googlebar altogether, Bruce, and if I remove
it only when I need to use the forum...it'll be quite a task...I think my
best bet is to continue with the forum in my own OE. What do you think?
Although I don't know how to post from my OE...but I'm sure I'll find out in
one of the useful links you sent me today.

However, I believe that the OE toolbar disappeared when I installed the MS
forum in OE...could it be??? And right after I applied the new link that
Daved sent me today, all the icons like the "Reply", 'Forward" etc. came
back, but, in a different order, and the menu like "File", "Edit" etc. is now
all the way hidden to the right. When I click on those 2 little arrows, it
shows only a drop-down list of the menu. Is there a way I could put them in
their original order? I didn't find any "Default" option...is there one?

As to identities, my servers took over and keep record of my 4 emails which
I gave to each identity (don't know the reason). But since I seem to have
recovered the toolbar albeit in disorderly state, at least for now I won't
have to replace it?

I did notice my msgs garbled, I'm sorry. Yes, I've been writing them in
Word because I'm always afraid to lose my answer on the website - it happened
in the past. So I always wrote them in OE first, but this time I couldn't
because of the missing toolbar. You can see there's no garbling now. ..is
there? )

Thanks so much for being so kind and so helpful! Adela

the popup ad in the yellow line above but didn't work. I was also
suggested,
and did, to put this forum in my OE6, but I dont' know how to handle it
since
I see lots of foreign language, garbled and other strange messages. I
expected to see the same as here, i.e., separated by categories so I
can
choose what I need, etc. Please let me know how to understand this
nice
forum in my own OE6 (step by step please)? Again I beg you to forgive
my
intrusion here and I antiicpate my thanks for any help you can give on
these
2 problems. :-)

P.P.S. Joy's msg seems to be closed now...

Helping a friend who is new to Outlook Express. He has WinXP and OE6.
His
e-mail WAS working fine, but now both in Inbox view and if he double
clicks
to open a message, the toolbar with Reply, etc., etc. has disappeared.
I
thought perhaps it got pushed up into the File-Edit toolbar, but he
says
(on
the phone; I haven't seen it myself) that a double arrow with the
cursor
won't let him pull it down (if that's even the problem). I'm leaving
town
tomorrow and would very much like to be able to help him before I go.
Thanks for any help with this.
