Dear Group,

I have the following problem with one of the users here in the office. Using
OE6.00.2900 set to send/receive every 5 minutes. User would compose message,
hit send and away it goes no error messages whatsoever, but receiver(s)
would get the message multiple times every 5 minutes unless sender would
shut OE down or shut down the computer. E-mail account was deleted and
recreated, but same problem continues. Of course there is no problem if user
uses web interface.

Any suggestions to fix issue with OE?

Thanks in advance,

Increase Send/Receive to 10 minutes or more.

POP3 mail: http://www.insideoe.com/problems/bugs.htm#pop3uidl

HTTP (Hotmail) and IMAP: http://www.insideoe.com/faqs/why.htm#dupes

General OE Caveats:

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Disable Background Compacting [N/A in SP2] and frequently perform a manual
compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at
http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm

- WinXP SP2 only: Do not attempt to close OE via Task Manager or shutdown
your machine if Automatic Compacting is taking place.

- WinXP SP2 only: If your machine is fully up-to-date at Windows Update,
installing the following patch (KB918766) will help to avoid such data loss
in the futu
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...2-98af2256ccc3

This patch will be included in the next Cumulative Update for Outlook
Express/WinXP SP2.

- Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause
corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection.

Sounds like they have a corrupted Outbox, or possibly Sent Items Folder?

Do the following for the Outbox, and if this does not cure the problem,
repeat for the Sent Items folder, after you have moved any messages from
sent items folder that they may want to keep, move them to a local folder
that you have created, move them back later.

ToolsOptionsMaintenanceStore Folder will reveal the location of
your Outlook Express files. Press the Tab key to highlight where the folder
is, then hit Ctrl+C. (copy) Close OE, then StartRunCtrl+V. (paste) Hit OK
and you should see the OE files.

In WinXP the OE user files .DBX and .WAB are by default
marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable
Show hidden files and folders under StartSettingsControl PanelFolder
OptionsView menu.

With OE closed, find the folder Outbox.dbx and delete it.

A new one will be created for you when you reopen OE.

Test the problem?

It took me 2 days...but it finally worked. The user had over 24,000 messages
on the Sent Items folder and 7,000 on the Inbox folder plus several
subfolders. Everything now seems to be working ok.

Thanks

I think I got, thanks for your advice.

Is there a limit of messages per folder that OE can handle?. The User had
7,000+ in the inbox and 24,000+ in the sent items folder.

The design limit for the OE DBX files (which correspond to the folders)
is 2 GB. But the file structure is fragile and easily corrupted. It is
generally recommend to keep the DBX files under 100 MB.

The Inbox, Outbox and Sent Items are most prone to corruption due to
heavy use.
