Uninstalling Outlook Express 6 (and Keeping It That Way)!!!
 

Hello!

I have tried this before, never had success and given up, but now want to
try again. I am running XP Pro SP 2 and Outlook Express 6, but use the full
Outlook product as my mail client, so Outlook Express is useless, since I
also use Forte's Agent as my news client. I am currently running Internet
Explorer 6 on my system as well. I have gone into the Control Panel's Add or
Remove Program Applet, selected the Add/Remove Windows Component, and
selected to remove Outlook Express. It looks like it is removing the
program, but once I leave the Control Panel, it is still there. The icon is
even gone, but the files are still there. I've tried removing that directory
by hand at this point, but it is possessed by Microsoft, and when the system
is rebooted, they're back!!! It has removed the default settings, but the
program itself is still present. I have tried using Microsoft's Knowledge
Base for information, but it seems to intertwine getting rid of Outlook
Express with removing Internet Explorer (which I don't want to do), and I
don't want to touch registry keys (or other files since it doesn't completely
say which files you are deleting will affect which program -- IE or OE) that
will end up affecting IE, thus causing an IE disaster.

Does anyone have manual instructions for removing OE 6 from a XP Pro SP 2
system running IE 6, while keeping Internet Explorer 6 intact, and KEEPING OE
6 off of my system forever? This thing just won't go away. I could use some
explicative right now, but I'll refrain, but any 13 year old has heard them
and could probably come up better ones than I could. I am competent with
doing registry edits and system file deletes, but want to make sure they only
affect OE 6 and not Internet Explorer 6, like all of the articles on the
Microsoft KB seem to want me to do. I would appreciate any help you can
provide.

IMPORTANT NOTE: I am not willing to use IE 7 Beta 3 as this results in
problems with Symantec programs and other issues while on the Internet on
certain paid web sites, so it is not an viable solution. TIA. Have a great

I don't think you can do it. Internet Explorer and Outlook Express are part
of a package. I do not believe they can be uninstalled singly. Why not
just make Outlook your default email client and be done with it?

Outlook requires the presence of Outlook Express.
