Default IMPORTING EMAILS INTO OUTLOOK EXPRESS 6

I have recently reinstalled Windows XP and would now like to import my old
emails into Outlook Express. I have located the .dbx files but when I use
FILE/IMPORT/MESSAGES/OUTLOOK EXPRESS 6/IMPORT MAIL FROM AN OE6
DIRECTORY/BROWSE

A message comes up saying:
No messages can be found in this folder or another application is running
that has the required files open. Please select another folder or try
closing applications that have files open.

Any ideas?
Thanks.

Hi Bruce

Thanks it worked! What I was omitting to do, was include the FOLDERS.dbx
file. Once I included that it worked fine.

Many thanks.

Default IMPORTING EMAILS INTO OUTLOOK EXPRESS 6

Bruce,

I've followed your solutions for others so here's my scenario:

After trying to Import into OE my 18 .dbx files (one is Folders.dbx), I get
the message: No messages can be found in this folder or another application
is running that has the required files open. Please select another folder or
try closing applications that may have files open.

I have copied the files (each are not Read-Only) to another folder named
email, checked off the Read-Only mode, hit Apply, then close it out. After
checking properties again, the email folder says it's Read-Only again but
each individual file is not. If this is the problem, how do I correct it?

Your help will be much appreciated.

See what you didn't do here.

Backup & Resto
http://www.insideoutlookexpress.com/backup/

If all else fails, you may have to import them manually. A little work, but
not so bad once you get going. This canned reply refers to the Desktop as
where the files are now, so just substitute Desktop for the folder you put
them in.

If any have a name that is the same as a folder in OE now with message in
them, either rename the one you want to import, or the one in OE as this
will overwrite.

Open OE and create a folder with the *exact* same name as the one on the
Desktop. Open the new folder and then close OE. Go to Windows Explorer and
locate the Message Store folder for your OE identity, but don't open it.
Click on the Desktop and drag the file from the Desktop in the right hand
pane to the OE store folder in the left pane. Prompt - "Do you want to
overwrite......."? Click Yes.
