To put it in perspective, when I first found NGs and set up subscriptions I
sent a test message or two to ensure I had completed the process
successfully.

You have been subscribing too long to remember.... (violins somewhere)...

I usually do one of two things, by way of a test post. Either use a test
newsgroup, or post a reply to an existing article which would be sensible in
the context of the thread, yet expendable, in case the post failed.

The OP's article was neither; and confusing, as well. As if the poster was
seeking assistance, rather than posting a test.

I suppose so. I sent messages headed "test" so it was obvious I was not
asking a question... but so many people are not 'IT aware'..

You, too, have been in the 'business' too long to remember how it is for
most people. (more violins somewhere)

And you're guessing. So, by your own omission and assuming the OP did
the same, are you suggesting we lambaste the OP for puking a test post
in a non-test group?

I've tried to find out myself in the past.
Usually you get answers from people that are in the newsgroups constantly
and have no patience for a newbe.
It is really difficult to know what the news groups are since they only
reveal one or two words followed by .... I've tried several different key
strokes to see if they would open up to readable text, to no avail. So,
I ended up subscribing to one, then delete, subscribe to another, delete.
Until I finally find something that I want.
Needless to say, there may be more that I would like to read, but I too
have run out of patience doing the subscribe, delete thing.
So, if you have patience someone with compassion will answer your very
legitimate question. Sure wish I could be more help to you..

Here is an answer that I received from reader, Peter.

Here you will see the different newsgroups available on the MS News server.
