Different time zones
 

When I put an appointment in my calendar, it is for my time zone. Then I sync
my calendar with my phone it is still in my time zone. However, when I travel
to other time zones, Outlook changes the appointments for that time zone. How
can I make the appointments not change time zones?

Appointments don't change time zones. They'll stay exactly where you put
them originally. In other words, if you make an appointment for, say, 2:00
PM Eastern Time and then travel to the Mountain time zone, changing your
Windows time zone to match, your appointment will remain exactly where you
put it: at 2:00 PM ET, which is 12:00 PM Mountain time. I suspect you want
your appointments to change time zones along with the Windows clock.
Outlook doesn't work that way. If you know you're going to be in another
time zone on a particular day, make your appointment in the current time
zone in such a way that it will be correct in your new time zone. For
example, if you know you'll be in the Mountain time zone and will have a
2:00 PM meeting, enter it in the Eastern zone for 4:00 PM.

Better yet, use Outlook's alternate time zone feature and don't touch your
PC's time zone.

My challenge is that sometimes I don't know what time zone I will be in at
the time I make an appointment. For example, if I make an appointment for a
phone conference call in two weeks at 2pm while I am in Salt Lake City. Then
I have to go to NY duing the time I have the call scheduled. Well, Outlook
changed the time to 4pm but the call is really for 2pm. Is there a way to
"freeze" the time zones for appointments?

Outlook did NOT change the time, you did. Outlook always uses GMT
internally. When you change your time zone, Outlook displays the same GMT
time as represented in that zone. You don't want Outlook to freeze the time
zone, you want it to float the appointments. Have you looked at the
alternate time zone feature of Outlook?
