Default I'm losing history!

How do I stop a recurrence without deleting the appointment completely? I'd
like to keep the information about the appointment in my archives, but if I
click 'Remove Recurrence' as the 'Help' menu suggests, Outlook deletes the
entire appointment from day one. Does anyone have a solution to this
problem? I'm using Outlook 2003.

export to excel then import - this breaks it into individual appointments.
