Appts. in Outlook calendar only show in real-time how do I change

When I try to type a name on the calendar in a specific time slot, the name
appears in the "real-time" slot. How can I change this? I would like to
schedule a weeks worth of appointments, but can't seem to put the names in
the correct slots.
