Default Single appointment becomes a multiple appointment

I create an appointment for day in future e.g 20th. Today is the 5th.
When I confirm, Calendar displays appointment in for every day from 5th
right thru to 20th. It sounds like some sort of automatic recurrence
is set but there is no recurrence available to cancel. Any thoughts
much appreciated.
