Default Why do appointments I have declined still appear in my Calendar

I have noticed since upgrading to Office 2003 that when I decline a meeting
invitation the meeting still appears in my Calendar. A quick straw poll
around the office has revealed that several other colleagues have noticed the
same thing. One annoying side effect is that one colleague has declined the
same meeting on a daily basis for the last week!
