dismissed appointments keep coming back!

For the last week I've been dismissing past appointments and every time the
PC boots and Outlook (Office 2000) is relaunched, all the reminders pop up
again. These are not recurring appointments.

This has happened before and only stopped when other problems meant I had to
reformat the hard drive and reinstall everything.

Does anyone know if there's an easier fix?

Thank you.
