Totally great way to overload your server and get your ISP to cut you off. A
scan interval of less than 5 minutes is definitely not recommended. -- Ken Slovak [MVP - Outlook] http://www.slovaktech.com Author: Absolute Beginner's Guide to Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 Reminder Manager, Extended Reminders, Attachment Options http://www.slovaktech.com/products.htm wrote in message ups.com... No mail programs support polling a server that frequently because it's inconsistent with the POP3 paradigm; it's way impractical from both traffic and load perspectives. Sounds to me like IM would be a better fit for your apparent communications needs. -Mark Or perhaps another program? please help, |

I suggest you double check before you make such a stupid claim, there are in fact many such programs in example Pegasus. |

No mail programs support polling a server that frequently because it's inconsistent with the POP3 paradigm; it's way impractical from both traffic and load perspectives. Sounds to me like IM would be a better fit for your apparent communications needs. I suggest you double check before you make such a stupid claim, there are in fact many such programs in example Pegasus. Excuse me? Did I somehow imply I personally know about every niche email app, for every platform? My bad, I just didn't think anyone would be lame enough to assume something like that. The OP indicated difficulty finding such a program, I took it on faith that he had done a thorough search. I see now I should've qualified my statement, something like no reasonable mainstream email apps..,. or none with well-considered designs..., or maybe none constructed to work well and efficiently with a global transport protocol, such as POP3... If you're trying to argue that it is practical for POP3 clients to poll server's every 10 seconds, I'll pass, it takes too much effort to argue a point so ridiculous... You've obviously never operated a public email server. And from a glance at the Pegasus web site, I see they're involved with some sort of Netware-based email transport -- could it be that option was originally intended for other than POP3 exchanges? And one more thing, btw, what possessed you to post using such a rude tone? That was totally uncalled for. What exactly would you expect me to "double-check"? If garbage like that is all you have to say, why don't you just STFU instead? -Mark |
