Default Exchange Client Extensions in Outlook 2010?

All other versions of Outlook enable customization via the ability to manage
various add-in's thru Exchange Client Extensions. Is this gone or different
in Outlook 2010?

So we have to convert our existing ECE to a com add-in and Extended MAPI remains a viable approach?
