Default can't send out pdf attachments.

What is the full text of the error message?

At what point do you get the error message?
- When you try to attach the PDF file to the message?
- When you try to send the message?
- When the recipient tries to receive the message?
- When the recipient tries to open the attachment?

The "file is not supported" sounds like it might be when trying to open
the attachment. That generally means a problem with the Windows File
Associations such as trying to use the wrong program to open the PDF
file.

See the Identifying Attachment File Types and Setting File Associations
section of
Decoding Internet Attachments - A Tutorial

If the PDF file is opening in Acrobat Reader and the Acrobat Reader is
complaining that it's not a PDF file, this can be an issue of sending a
small PDF file and OE using Quoted-printable encoding. In that case,
Zip the PDF file and send the zipped file. The recipient will have to
unzip it then open the resulting PDF file.
