Default Delivery to the following recipients is still underway

That message indicates a problem between your mail service and the
recipient's mail service. Assuming that you are using the correct
e-mail address for the recipient, it's not a problem at your end.

That the recipient has problems connecting to her mail service would
suggest that the problem is with her mail service. Although her
inability to connect to her mail service to send/receive mail would not
necessary cause problems with others sending mail to her. The mail
would just wait for her in her mail service inbox.

The error that you are getting could also indicate that her mail service
is blocking mail from your mail service (not specifically blocking you).
But typically you get a permanent failure message rather than delayed
delivery.

As for the attachment that you see in the bounced message, that is your
original message to her, or a portion of it, so that you can identify
the message having the problem.

This has just started popping up.
WinXP and OE 6
At first I thought it was a problem with a recipient. She had been
having connect problems.

Then my wife, who has a seperate account with the same ISP as me, had
about a dozen outgoing emails that got the same result.
Her account is on the same PC but is otherwise independent of mine.

As a quick test, I sent an email to the wife's address and it went
through immediately (at least as fast as I could switch accounts to
see)

The entire message reads as follows:

************************************************** *************
This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification.

Delivery to the following recipients is still underway after 7.2
hour(s):

*

Will keep trying and contact you if the message can't be delivered
permanently.

************************************************** **************

The message also indicates an attachment "ATT00XX.dat" where XX
represent a decimal number.

My antivirus applications did not find anything amiss.

Where does this error arise and what should be done?

Charlie
