My Shortcuts folders are lost..and so am I
Wow. This is a textbook example of every wrong way to transfer Outlook data
there is--all in one post. And you're using IMO mode too, so the usual
repair options are not even available to us.
Are you sure you're using Internet Mail Only mode? It doesn't sound like it.
You can't create new profiles in IMO.
Clarify your mode, then we'll start trying to undo the damage you've done.
Do you still have your original PST file intact?
The two most certain ways to corrupt an Outlook profile a
a. Overwriting a profile's default PST file.
b. Renaming a profile's default PST then redirecting Outlook to a new PST on
re-launch.
The only correct way to transfer Outlook data in IMO is:
Internet Mail Only mode:
- File menu Open Personal Folders file migrate to the new PST file
location to open it
- Right-click on the root of the new set of folders in the folder pane (View
Folder List)
- Choose Properties
- Check the "Deliver POP mail" box
- Quit & restart Outlook
- Now you can Close the PST file that you were previously using (R-click on
that pst folder while in Folder View and select "Close foldername
Folders"). If you have any information in your former PST that you'd like to
transfer to your new default PST, you can drag and drop from one to the
other before you close the old one.

I recently bought a new PC, and have installed Outlook 2000 Internet
only mail. I then set up a profile and closed Outlook 2000. I then
renamed Outlook.pst to outlook.old. I then grabbed the old pst file
which is fine and working on the old pc, and copied it to the same
EXACT place. (both PC's running XP pro SP2 all updates, and are named
exactly the same) When I open outlook it appears as if evertthing is
there but the folders under my shortcuts are gone...where did they go?
I thought EVERYTHING was stored in the pst file. Any ideas?
Thanks
