Don't open an email from within outlook - save it to the hard drive
first.
Or get in the habit of closing the attachment before changing messages.
Also, make sure you have all the updates installed.
When you open attachments in Outlook and make changes the attachment is
updated - normally, when you change messages with the attachment open,
the
attachment is orphaned in the securetemp folder and changes aren't
updated.
When you use IMAP, outlook is creating a new message when it breaks the
link
between the message and open attachment. If you close the attachment
before
changing messages or folders, outlook deletes the temp copy in the
securetemp folder and saves any changes back to the email's copy.

Im using an IMAP account.
When I have an attachment open, and then change emails in outlook to
view another email, Outlook decides to create a second copy of the
email with the open attachment, and "mark for deletion" the first
email. In doing to Outlook locks up as the copy is created and
uploaded to my IMAP server.
Does anyone know how to stop it doing this? Im using Outlook 2003.
Many thanks!!

Thanks for your message.
However, I was hoping someone might post a solution where I could
change a setting in outlook to stop it from behaving in this rather
unproductive way!
Anyone?
(I note that Outlook 2007 installed on another machine does not behave
like this...)
thanks,

thats interesting.
They certainly dont behave the same, so that means that a difference
in settings DOES provide a change in behaviour! This has given me
hope that a solution can be found!
