Default Importing not working in outlook 2002

Hi Guys,

I found a solution, I downloaded a piece of software called MAPILab mailing
list services. This "add in" has a feature to get contacts from a text file
so I used that and now I have my 3,000 contacts in outlook.

The first thing I have done is export it out again as a PST file so I dont
get the same problem again.

This is a trial ware but I am pretty sure I will end up buying it as it has
other features that I like as well.

Thank you all for your time and assistance.

Hi Karl,

I cant work out how to scanPST as you suggested, this may be basic but can
you point me in the right direction, at this point I will try anything.

How do I run ScanPST ?

Just for interest's sake - is anything listed at all under "The following
actions will be performed"? (left hand side of screen where the Map Custom
Fields button is located). If the listbox is empty at this point,

1) there will be no checkbox to "check"
2) the Map Custom Fields button will be grayed out
3) if this is the case, might want to run ScanPST on your PST file to
determine if any errors exist on the PST file itself. You may also want to
create a new contact folder purely as a test exercise and select that as
your target folder to see if the behaviour changes in any way. To retract my
statement in my previous response - given the description thus far, a
configuration problem does indeed appear to exist.

As for O'2002 not having a "checkbox" - can assure you that when everything
is running correctly - it appears since the Import/Export process hasn't
changed much (if at all) for any version of Outlook at least since O'2000 if
not earlier. Normally, this would where I'd suggest that you may be
interested in one of our products Outlook importing
(http://www.contactgenie.com/cg20features.htm) but there is an underlying
problem somewhere that should be identified and fixed first (that's further
assuming that there is a need to import as was asked by Diane).

Hi Karl,

Thank you for your reply, however I have heard the same thing on all the
forums that I have gone to, but the problem is there is no checkbox
anywhere
at all so I cant do anything that helps.

If you know any other way to make such a box be checked when its invisible
that would be a great help.

It seems that this problem is not solvable so i am now looking at
upgrading
or usieng another contact software

On the last screen where the "Map Custom Fields" is grayed out - is the
checkbox "checked" on the left hand side under the heading "The following
actions will be performed" which should the folder you're importing to?

If that box is not checked, the "Map Custom fields" does not become
active
(or vice versa - however one wishes to describe it). Highly unlikely that
anything is wrong with your Outlook config.

step 3 - seleceted import from another program or file
Step 4 - selected microsoft excel
Step 5 - I chose the file to import and selected do not imports

Step 5 - I confirmed the destination folder
Step 6 - Well this is where it goes wrong the wizard will not allow me
to
move forward as they next and the map custom fields are greyed out

news My problem is that when importing into outlook. I select the file to
import
then the next screen does not allow me to go any further as the next
button
and the map custom fields button are greyed out.

I have spent many hours now trying to find a solution and followed
lots
of
advise, so far I have tried importing from access, excel, csv and
have
the
same problem with them all.

I updated my installation so everything is loaded correctlt, I ran
the
detect and repair and all seems ok.

I do not have a box to tick in the import system which a lot of
forums
mention. 2002 obviously does not have this or its extremely well
hidden.

Can anyone help please
