Default Viewing Images on Expanded Emails

does it work correctly if you click to show images in the preview pane
before opening the message?

Occasionally I get an email in my mailbox that contains images I may
choose to see; a special on Dell hardware for example. When I click the
email in my Inbox, it expands to full screen on my second monitor (Dell
Dimension 8300 is driving 2 monitors). I then click the notice in the
toolbar to click if I want to download pictures. When I do, they appear in
the preview panel next to the Inbox but not on the expanded copy of the
email that bore the original message to click for download. I can't get
the pictures to appear on the expanded view of the email. I'm sure this is
just an adjustment of some sort but I don't know where to find it. Would
appreciate some direction please.
